Twenty-five Nepali players to participate in Summer Universiade in China

The Summer Universiade is scheduled to start on July 28 in Chengdu, which will be the third Chinese city to host the event after Beijing in 2001 and Shenzhen in 2011.

 

Kathmandu: Twenty-five Nepali players from various sports disciplines are going to participate in FISU World University Games which is taking place later this month in Chengdu, the economic hub and the capital of China’s Sichuan province. Purna Singh Bohara, General Secretary of University Association of Nepal (USAN), who will lead the delegation from the Nepal side, confirmed Nepal’s participation. “It’s confirmed, Nepal will participate in that prestigious event,” said Bohara. “I have the hope and confidence that our players will perform well and keep the prestige of the country high.”

 

According to Bohara, Nepal will participate in seven events. They include fencing, table tennis, Wushu, shooting, taekwondo, badminton and athletics. Apart from Bohara, Pradeep Joshi, the president of USAN and Shiva Koirala, the vice president of National Sports Council, will be the members of Nepali delegation.

The Summer Universiade is scheduled to start on July 28 in Chengdu, which will be the third Chinese city to host the Summer Universiade, after Beijing in 2001 and Shenzhen in 2011.

“We hope to win some of the events and bring medals home,” said Bohara.  The Summer Universiade, an international multi-sports event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), is expected to draw over 10,000 student-athletes and officials from over 150 countries competing over 12 days.
