Nepalis living abroad will get voting rights, says PM Dahal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has assured all the Nepalis living abroad that the government will manage voting rights for them. During his meeting with Nepali journalists living in the US, Prime Minister Dahal said he has already instructed the Election Commission to ensure that all the Nepalis living abroad are allowed to exercise their adult franchise. Prime Minister is in New York to attend the 78th UN General Assembly along with a Nepali delegation. 

PM Dahal is accompanied by his daughter Ganga Dahal, Foreign Minister NP Saud, Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal, and other senior officials of the foreign ministry.

Permanent representatives of Nepal to the United Nations Organisation Lok Bahadur Thapa welcomed the prime minister-led delegation at John F Kenedy International Airport in New York on Monday. The prime minister also told the journalists that he would take any step to curb corruption and ensure good governance in the country. However, he said, many groups are trying hard to defame the government instead of highlighting the positive and good works of the government. 

Prime Minister Dahal has also met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Before addressing the UNGA, Prime Minister Dahal will attend different side-line meetings as the chair of Least Developed Countries. According to the Foreign Ministry, the prime minister is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on September 21. 

He is also attending the reception to be hosted by US President Joe Biden on September 19.

The prime minister will fly directly to Hangzhou, China from New York on September 22.
